Container ship GSL ELENI to be towed to China, rudder fixed amidships

Container ship GSL ELENI, which suffered rudder jam in portside position on Dec 29, on Jan 18 was moved to Seattle, to offload containers on board. The ship is said to be towed to China for repairs. Rudder meanwhile, was fixed in amidships position and prepared for Trans North Pacific towage.

Container ship GSL ELENI left Vancouver on Dec 28 bound for Yokohama, but her rudder stuck in portside position when she was already in the open, passing Juan de Fuca Strait, on Dec 29. Disabled ship was towed to Victoria during Dec 31 – Jan 1, to undergo repairs. 6 tugs were deployed. As of morning Jan 3, GSL ELENI remained berthed at Victoria.
