Container ship disabled by explosion, Iceland

Container ship EF AVA suffered explosion in engine room in the morning Oct 24, some 25 nm off southwest coast of Iceland, while en route from Immingham to Reykjavík. Explosion was followed by a lot of smoke, filling engine room. Icelandic CG patrol ship THOR (IMO 9426893) steamed to assist, with helicopters preparing to transfer firefighters on board of container ship. Crew took situation under control, no firefighters were needed. All crew are safe, no injures reported, understood explosion wasn’t followed by fire or it was quickly extinguished. THOR reached disabled ship and according to tracks, either took her on tow or escorted her. EF AVA with THOR towing or escorting, have been on a final leg to Reykjavík as of 0350 UTC Oct 25, proceeding at 6-7 knots speed.
