​What happened early Monday morning in the Baudouin channel?

Two man were found in the cold water of the Baudouin Channel, in Belgium in the early hours of Monday Nov 04. The dramatic incident took place in the Bauduin channel in the area of Lisseweegse Steenweg in Zwankendamm close to Bruges. At 0530 UTC the captain of cargo MTS VIVALDI noticed that two members of his crew were missing. He searched the area around the vessel and found one of his man struggling in the cold water. The 65 year old man from Antwerp was immediately rescued from the water and survived after being reanimated. He was brought to the hospital in a critical condition.

Another crew member was reported missing. The police and rescue department used sonar technology to find the missing man as fast as possible. The missing crew member was found in the water shortly afterwards. Unfortunately the 63 year old man from the Netherlands died on site shortly after being pulled out of the water.

It remains unclear why the two crew members of freighter MTS VIVALDI fell into the water.
