Brand new training ship damaged during typhoon FAXAI passage, Japan

Training ship SHOYO MARU with 62 students and teachers on board was hit by san carrier NO.36 OYARIKIMARU off Yokosuka, Japan, at around 0200 Tokyo time Sep 9, during typhoon FAXAI (15) passage. Understood both ships were anchored, and sand carrier drifted onto training ship after anchor dragged. It was a maiden voyage for training and research ship SHOYO MARU, inaugurated in April this year. She was to sail to Hawaii, but sheltered from typhoon. Voyage had to be interrupted because of damages to hull and equipment.
