Passenger ferry with 111 passengers gutted by fire, rescue continues, Java sea UPDATE

Aug 24: According to official statement information, there were 290 passengers on board, 286 were rescued, 4 were found dead. According to initial ship’s passengers manifest, there were 111 passengers on board. No information on ship’s condition and damages, except her after-fire look in the photo.

Aug 23: Ro-ro passenger ferry KM SANTIKA NUSANTARA suffered major fire on board at around 0300 WIB Aug 23 in Java sea near Masalembu islands, while en route from Surabaya Java to Balikpapan, Borneo island, Makassar Strait. Ferry was carrying 111 passengers, including 6 children and 5 toddlers, and 83 vehicles. Two ferries were directed to engulfed in flames KM SANTIKA NUSANTARA, local fishermen also trying to rescue people. By 1000 WIB 53 people were reportedly, rescued. Judging from latest photos, fire looks like it burned out by itself or was extinguished.
