US MARAD car carrier fire, New Orleans

Fire erupted in engine room of car carrier CAPE KNOX, berthed at Poland Avenue pier, New Orleans, in the afternoon May 31. Fire Department was alerted at 1620 LT (UTC -5), fire engines were sent, by 1900 LT fire was said ti be under control. One firefighter was treated from smoke inhalation. According to preliminary investigation, oil residues caught fire, when contracted workers were carrying out wielding works. CAPE KNOX is docked in New Orleans since February, according to track. She’s probably undergoing repairs or maintenance works.
