Cargo ship in distress while assisting VIKING SKY Mar 25 UPDATE towed to safety

UPDATE Mar 25: Abandoned ship was taken on tow in the morning Mar 25, to be towed to Averoy, Kristiansund, Norway. Commercial tug was contracted for towage. At 1230 UTC Mar 25 caravan was approaching Averoy.

UPDATE 0500 UTC Mar 24: Reportedly all crew evacuated, having to jump into water to be picked up by rescuers. The ship said to be anchored, more or less safe, with part of her deck cargo, timber, being lost. It was said also, that the ship ran into trouble while approaching distressed VIKING SKY, in order to assist by whatever means possible.

General cargo ship HAGLAND CAPTAIN ran into trouble and is in need of assistance some 5 nm east of distressed VIKING SKY, Norway. The ship reportedly suffered mechanical failure or engine failure at around 1800 UTC Mar 23 and started to drift towards coast in severe storm. Helicopters reportedly sent to evacuate ship’s 9 crew.
VIKING SKY meanwhile, is desperately trying to reach calm waters to shelter from raging storm, she’s slowly moving in western direction at some 3-4 knots speed.
