Explosion, fire on tanker, 1 dead 3 missing, Hong Kong UPDATE Photos

Product tanker AULAC FORTUNE suffered explosion and fire in the morning Jan 8 at Lamma Island Anchorage, Hong Kong, reportedly at 1130 Hong Kong time. At least 1 crew killed, 3 missing, 24 were rescued. Crew had to jump into water to escape fire, some said to be thrown overboard by explosion. As of 1100 HK time firefighting was still on, tanker being surrounded by a number of tugs and auxiliary boats. Judging from photo (Police Hong Kong), explosion took place in cargo tank or tanks in front of superstructure, tanker developed heavy starboard list, cargo deck devastated. Tanker arrived at anchorage from Dongguan in Guangdong province, was anchored early in the morning Jan 8.
Tanker looks like she’s in ballast, meaning that there was gas explosion, followed by comparatively small fire.
