Freighter loaded with coal sank in Black sea, 6 crew died

Turkish Coast Guard was alerted by distress message at 0810 Moscow time Jan 7, cargo ship VOLGO-BALT 214 was reported to be sinking in Black sea some 80 nm off Samsun, Turkey. The ship loaded with coal was en route from Azov to Samsun, with 13 crew including 9 Ukrainians, 2 Russians and 2 Azerbaijani nationalities. SAR operation was launched, with deployment of helicopters, SAR boats and CG ships. 7 crew were rescued, 6 regretfully, died.
Reportedly, the ship broke in two and sank, rather familiar scheme for ships of this VOLGO-BALT “river-sea” type, when caught in rough weather.
