GRIMALDI cruise ferry troubled, cancelled cruise, Tyrrhenian sea

Cruise ferry CRUISE ROMA suffered portside propeller breakdown (reportedly propeller shaft) early in the morning Dec 8 shortly after leaving Porto Torres, northern Sardinia, Italy, being bound for Barcelona. In the afternoon crew managed to fix problem, but the ship headed for Civitavecchia instead of Barcelona, docking there shortly after midnight Dec 9. 390 passengers are to be transferred to another Grimaldi ship to take them to Barcelona. CRUISE ROMA seemed to sail to Civitavecchia at full speed, so it is not clear why the ship cancelled itinerary, and passengers are moving to another ship. Probably propeller shaft deficiency requires additional survey and yard repairs.
