Tug on the rocks, salvage required

Tug VIKING while towing, reportedly, dredger, from Egypt to Palma de Mallorca Spain, was caught in rough weather south of Crete and, obviously, decided to shelter at Crete waters. Tug anchored off Malata, southern Crete, or tried to anchor, but was pushed on rocky coast just north of Malata, at around 0600 LT Dec 7. Eight crew were rescued, tug’s on the rocks with no definite plan of salvage yet. Authorities and locals fear oil spill, as the tug has some 20 tons of fuel on board. No news on dredger or
