HAMBURG SUD container ship attacked, cocaine shipment busted

Container ship CAP SAN MARCO was attacked and boarded by 5 armed criminals from speed boat early in the morning Dec 2 on Santos outer Anchorage, Brazil. The ship was waiting for berth at Santos, when attack occurred. Deckhand on watch, Filipino sailor, was taken by surprised, seized and tied up. Criminals stayed on board for some 45 minutes, and then fled. Police suspected one more attempt to load cocaine on board and hide it in containers, in a manner similar to other accidents, which happened during this year. After the ship was berthed, she was thoroughly checked, one broken container found, with no drugs in it. Another container was found inside hold stacked among many others, which couldn’t be accessed by criminals without moving other containers. 402 kilos of cocaine were found hidden in this container. Police believes, criminals failed to board and hide their lot of cocaine, as for container with cocaine, it was obviously, loaded in previous port of call, assumedly in Paranagua, because container was already on suspicion list. Cocaine was bound for Europe, the ship is deployed on Europe – East South America coast service.
