SCORPIO’s tanker attacked, robbed, crew safe
Product tanker STI HAMMERSMITH, anchored in pos 09 21N 013 43W, Conakry Anchorage, Guinea, was attacked by pirates at 0300 UTC Sep 17. According to IMB report, tanker was boarded by four armed robbers. Master raised the alarm, locked the accommodation and all crew mustered in the citadel. The armed robbers fired at the bridge windows and gained access into the accommodation. They ransacked all crew cabins and escaped with crew personal belongings. A navy boat arrived at the location to provide assistance. All crew reported safe. As of morning Sep 19, tanker was in the same position, she’s anchored since Sep 4, on arrival from Las Palmas.
