Ferry capsized, people jumped into water, Indonesia Video

Update: 12 people reportedly died. The ship according to all available information, remained partially afloat, resting on bottom. Most likely, there was panic on board, causing people to jump into water, when there was no real danger of ship sinking and consequently, people drowning. If there’s an all-out panic among dozens of people on board of distressed capsized ship, there’s little Captain and the crew can do.

Ferry LESTARI MAJUNG developed heavy portside list in waters of Selayar island, South Sulawesi, Indonesia, Flores sea, in the afternoon Jul 3, with 139 people and 48 vehicles on board. It was said, that crew managed to ground her, to avoid capsizing. People jumped into water or were clinging to her hull and superstructure. Rough weather was mentioned, most probably list was caused by shifted vehicles. SAR is under way.
