Capesize bulk carrier disabled by fire in South Atlantic

Very large ore carrier STELLAR SAMBA suffered fire in generator in engine room on May 26 off Brazilian coast, caused by leaked oil. Fire was extinguished, no injures reported. The ship is disabled since fire. Master informed Brazilian Maritime Authorities, which sent Navy ship to monitor ship’s condition and provide crew safety. Tug was reportedly contracted, STELLAR SAMBA is to be towed to Brazilian port, probably her port of destination – she was ballasting from Singapore to Itaqui Brazil. Tug is to arrive on May 30.
According to Polaris statement, crew is working on generators and probably, the ship will be able to reach port under own power without tug. Judging from AIS track, STELLAR POLARIS is moving at some 3 knots speed.
