​ Mongolia-flagged, Hong Kong operated freighter seized with contraband Vietnamese rice

General cargo ship DIAMOND 8 was seized by Philippine Navy at night Apr 14 in Zamboanga waters, southwest Mindanao Island, Philippines. Allegedly, the ship manned by Bangladeshi and Chinese crew smuggled more than 20,000 sacks weighing 1359 tons of rice of Vietnamese origin, into the country. There were other persons on board, including 34 Filipino and 17 others, of yet unidentified nationalities. The ship was seized after Navy found her movements “suspicious”. DIAMOND 8 was taken to Zamboanga for further investigation.
