Mar 6: The correct description for the Maersk Line Shanghai container incident is as follows per Maersk Line statement: March 3th at 20:15 EST the vessel Maersk Shanghai, reported between 70 – 73 containers collapsed and/or were lost overboard due to poor weather at sea when in route to Charleston, South Carolina.

Container ship MAERSK SHANGHAI contacted US Coast Guard North Carolina’s command center via VHF-FM at night Mar 3 and report loss of 70 or 73 containers in rough seas about 17 miles off Oregon Inlet, North Carolina. The ship is en route from Norfolk to Charleston, USA. No report yet on lost containers cargo. At 0300 UTC Mar 5 MAERSK SHANGHAI was some 30 nm off Charleston, moving at a reduced speed of some 5-6 knots, in the vicinity of anchored container ship MAERSK STRALSUND (IMO 9303533), also bound for Charleston.
