Tanker refloated after 18 days ordeal
Product tanker HANG YU 11 was refloated on Feb 21 by salvage tugs SALVAGE CHAMPION (IMO 7530444) and SALVAGE ACE (IMO 7626841), both owned by ASIAN MARINE CO LTD, understood ASIAN MARITIME was contracted for salvage. Tanker drifted aground on Feb 3 (see initial news below), and couldn’t be refloated earlier because of adverse weather. While sitting hard on breakwater, tanker was battered by waves, leading to further damages in superstructure, engine and pump rooms. All oil on board was removed by Feb 9, about a ton leaked shortly after accident, understood there were no more leaks.
Tanker aground, Taiwan Strait
Feb 3: Product tanker HANG YU 11 drifted aground in strong storm at Taoyuan, northern Taiwan, Taiwan Strait, at around 0600 LT Feb 3, while sailing in northern direction along Taiwan coast, to Taipei. Authorities are requesting soonest possible refloating, or at least, fuel removal, to avoid pollution. No information on damages.
