Irish cargo ship disabled in English Channel, avoid French salvage

General cargo ship ARKLOW RIVALwas disabled by mechanical damage at around 0930 UTC Feb 18 in English Channel some 70 nm west of Guernsey, while en route from Lisbon Portugal to Sunderland, UK, North sea, with cargo of cement. Owner refused towage offered by French SAR, with SAR ship ABEILLE BOURBON being nearby and ready. The other ship of Arklow, ARKLOW RAINBOW (IMO 9344497), interrupted her voyage to Warrenpoint, Ireland, and came to assist. Understood they manage to move the ship from heavily trafficked area up north, later British tug CANNIS (IMO 8102141) was contracted, she took ARKLOW RIVAL on tow at around 0400 UTC Feb 19, to be towed to Fowey, nearest British port. As of 0530 UTC Feb convoy was proceeding towards Fowey at some 4 knots speed.
