Dutch freighter didn’t make it and was taken on tow

General cargo ship FWN RUBY suffered technical failure while approaching Las Palmas en route from Antwerp, being some 5.6 nm off port. Spanish SAR ship MIGUEL DE CERVANTES (IMO 9320116) took freighter on tow and towed her to Las Palmas same day, where she was berthed. FWN RUBY left Las Palmas on Jan 26, bound for West Africa.
Comment: Not known how justifiable was the SAR towage. Too many accidents with too many stories told by owners, saying that they were enforced into unnecessary salvage. In this case, why port tugs weren’t deployed?
