Two accidents in Kiel Canal: tanker blackout, bulk carrier collision

Bulk carrier THOR ENDEAVOUR rammed into steel pole defenders of a jetty in Southern Lock Brunsbuettel, while entering Kiel Canal in the afternoon Nov 10. Ship’s hull was dented or breached, one of steel poles bent. Accident was caused by a wind gust, notwithstanding two assisting tugs. She was berthed at Brunsbuettel for investigation, probably repairs. As of 0700 UTC Nov 11, bulk carrier was still at Brunsbuettle. She’s en route from France to Lithuania.
Product tanker ORASUND suffered blackout while transiting Kiel Canal in the afternoon Nov 10 near Levensau Bridge. By the time tug arrived, crew fixed problem and tanker was under way again, but tug escorted her during the rest of her westbound transit. At 0700 UTC Nov 11 she was at anchor on Brunsbuettel anchorage.
