LPG tanker gas leak, locals evacuated, Elbe

High explosive propylene gas escaped from LPG tanker BOW GUARDIAN in the evening Oct 19 in Lower Saxony, Elbe. Situation was found to be so dangerous and explosion-threatening, that local residents were asked to keep windows and doors closed, village of Abbenfleth was partially evacuated. Another side effect of exposure to this gas is an intoxication similar to drugs.
Traffic in the area was temporarily suspended. In two hours emergency was called off, leakage was sealed, situation declared normal, Elbe traffic resumed. Faulty pump said to be the cause of gas leak, via vent.
