Antique ship on fire, San Diego

Fire erupted in superstructure of fishing research ship NORTON SOUND, docked at San Diego near Seaport Village, in the morning Sep 29, report local media. According to latest updates, there were no people on board and so far, one firefighter was treated for overheat, no other injures reported. Fire was said to be still raging as of evening Sep 29, with open fire burning out and smoldering still going on. NORTON SOUND is berthed in San Diego since March this year or maybe earlier, there’s no detailed AIS record of her movements during last several years. She seems to be in a lay-up or used for some other than fishing and sailing purposes – no wonder, considering her antique age.
