Canal Beauharnois traffic blocked after bulk carrier damage, Great Lakes

Bulk carrier MARIA G struck k the ship arrester at Beauharnois, Lock 3 in the morning Sep 24, reports GREAT LAKES and SEAWAY SHIPPING NEWS. Traffic was suspended and, according to AIS, remained suspended as of 0300 UTC Sep 25, with MARIA G being berthed in Lock connecting Canal Beauharnois with St. Lawrence river. Bulk carrier is ballasting from Hamilton to Baie Comeau. At least 4 ships, including MARIA G, are berthed along Canal and its’ Locks, more are anchored outside, awaiting for Lock 3 to be re-opened.
