Cargo ship grounded to avoid sinking, Netherlands

Inland cargo ship HELENA CORA ran into trouble in the afternoon Sep 12 shortly after leaving Vissingen, bound for Antwerp, with cargo of aluminum ingots on board. Understood vessel ran into rough seas and was heavily battered by waves, skipper decided to ran her on sand bank to avoid possible sinking. There were four people on board – skipped, his wife and their two children. Wafe and children went on a pilot boat, skipper remains on board. As of 1600 UTC Sep 12, vessel was in the same position at Kaloot, Vissingen-Ost, with tugs at her side. All photos and video full-scale
