Kerch Strait blocked, dozens of ships lined up both sides
Kerch Strait is closed for shipping from 0000 Moscow time Aug 27 until 0000 Moscow time Aug 30, because of Kerch Strait Bridge construction works, namely because of bridge’s railway ark installation. As of 1000 Moscow time Aug 28, there were 24 ships awaiting Strait transit from Black sea side, and 4 vessels from Azov sea side. According to AIS live, as of 0700 UTC Aug 29, number of awaiting transit ships significantly increased.
Construction of the bridge, which is to connect annexed by Russia Ukrainian Crimean Peninsula with mainland Russia is, basically, illegal, and is carried out without Ukrainian assent or even bilateral consultations. The bridge during construction works, and later, if construction is to be completed, is to hamper Kerch Strait traffic with some navigational and technical restrictions, for example - Panamax bulk carriers won’t be able to enter Azov sea anymore because of their height.
