Freighter broke in two off Bosphorus
General cargo vessel LEONARDO broke in two during the night Aug 27 being anchored on Kilyos Anchorage, Bosphorus, Black sea, en route from Rostov-on-Don Russia to Tuzla. 11 crew were rescued by Turkish Coast Guard. According to photos, fore half of the vessel remains afloat, anchored, while aft drifted ashore. The vessel is very old, of river-sea type, notorious for their structural weakness and insufficient stability. Vessel said to be in load, most probably wheat.
Update: vessel was in ballast.
