Freighter ITT PANTHER sinking

July 21: Vessel was abandoned at around 0000 UTC July 20 in vicinity 15 10N 092 15E, some 120 nm north of northern tip of Smith Island, Andaman Islands, in Bay of Bengal. 11 crew went into life rafts and later were rescued by Indian Coast Guard ship ICGS Rajkamal. Vessel capsized after cargo shift.

July 20: General cargo vessel ITT PANTHER reportedly sank some 120 nm off Diglipur, Andaman Islands, on July 20 or 19. Eleven crew found themselves in water and said to be surviving by clinging to debris, including containers. Indian Coast Guard aircraft is on the scene, monitoring people, SAR complicated by rough weather and lack of vessels nearby. Two CG ships were already sent to the disaster site. Vessel according to Indian media, was carrying 29 containers, including 500 metric tonnes of sand, 200 metric tonnes of steel and a car.
