Bulk carrier OCEAN PHOENIX breached, grounded after collision, Chittagong

Bulk carrier OCEAN PHOENIX with 45,000 tons of clinker on board started to drift on Chittagong outer anchorage on June 24, after her anchor dragged. Vessel contacted anchored stern of bulk carrier GREEN PHOENIX, which is also loaded with clinker. OCEAN PHOENIX suffered hull breach starboard, in Hold No.4 area, with ensuing water ingress. Hold understood to be flooded, vessel aft is resting on the bottom. OCEAN PHOENIX couldn’t heave up anchor after it dragged, because reportedly, rudder or propeller got entangled in anchor chain. GRREN PHOENIX said to lose her anchor. Salvage said to be under way, first to seal the breach, then pump out water and finally, refloat vessel.
