Tanker BOSPOR arrested for seamen smuggling, Ukraine

Moldova-flagged tanker BOSPOR was arrested in Odessa Port, Ukraine, on June 8. According to official statement, during years 2015-2017 vessel was engaged in smuggling of some 100 Ukrainian seamen from Ukraine to Crimea Peninsula. Crimea was occupied by Russia in year 2014, since that time it’s considered as a “temporarily occupied Ukrainian territory”, with special laws defining Crimean status and all aspects of dealing with occupied territory, including border crossing and employment. Owner of the vessel is facing confiscation of the vessel, with estimated cost of some 445 mil Hryvnia ($1.7 mil). Owner’s name not revealed, it was said that “the owner is outside the Ukraine.
