Offshore tug with 1 ton of heroin intercepted in Mediterranean

Turkish police announced on June 7, that they seized 1071 kilo of heroin on board of offshore supply tug COMMANDER TIDE last week, intercepting vessel in Mediterranean on her way from Suez on June 2. The tug was boarded by special forces teams, 9 Turkish crew apprehended, and after that, vessel was searched through. Heroin in dozens of packages was hidden in various compartments throughout the vessel. COMMANDER TIDE was taken to Aksaz Naval Base, Marmaris, Turkey, Mediterranean sea. COMMANDER TIDE’s port of destination unknown, officials said that heroin was destined for Turkey.
