Container ship detained for possible Sudan arms embargo violation

Greek Coast Guard intercepted in Aegean Sea container ship MEKONG SPIRIT, and took her to Kefalos Bay, Kos island, where she was anchored in the afternoon May 24. Vessel is suspect in violating international arms embargo on Sudan. MEKONG SPIRIT left Aliaga Turkey on May 23 bound for Sudan via Suez, AIS showing Port Said as next port of call. After several hours stay, vessel heaved anchor and as of 0300 UTC May 25 was heading for Souda, Crete, for a thorough investigation.
