Container ship VAN MANILA was seized after Shanghai Maritime Court ruling, following the claim of the relatives of mv XIANG ZHOU missing crew. Vessel sank on Apr 6 after collision with VAN MANILA. Of 14 crew, 2 were rescued, and 12 went missing. According to Chinese sources, VAN MANILA with Korean Master switched AIS off and fled collision site. According to AIS, VAN MANILA was leaving Shanghai at the time of collision. Vessel was ordered back to Shanghai and is anchored at Shanghai anchorage since Apr 6.

General cargo vessel XIANG ZHOU sank early in the morning Apr 6 east of Yangtze estuary, near roundabout traffic separation zone, after suspected collision with unidentified vessel. Vessel with 4850 tons of steel on board said to be en route from Nantong to Busan. Of 14 crew, 2 were rescued by nearby vessel, SAR is under way, with some 17 vessels deployed, including nearby passing vessels.
