General cargo vessel AEGIR ran aground on Apr 18 in position 45 44S 073 57W, Canal Chacabuco, Chile, while en route to Punta Arenas with merchandise goods. Hull was breached with ensuing water ingress. It is not clear what exactly happened, judging from AIS track. Vessel stopped while transiting Canal, then crossed Canal and got stuck on a beach, see photo. It looks like vessel contacted bottom, breached hull and intentionally ran aground to avoid sinking. Chilean Navy said to be deployed in salvage. As of 0500 UTC Apr 29, vessel was in the same position.
