Fire disabled ferry GIOVANNI BELLINI, Italy

Fire erupted in engine room of a ferry GIOVANNI BELLINI in the morning Mar 6 off Piombino, Italy. Fire was extinguished by sealing engine room and activating firefighting system, but vessel with 75 passengers on board was disabled and had to anchor off Palmaiola island, roughly halfway between Piombino and Elba. She had to wait for a tug to be towed back to Piombino. Ferry, which is serving Piombino – Elba line, was towed to Piombino and berthed by midday.
