March 5, 2017 at 03:32 by Mikhail Voytenko in Accidents

Local media Monserrat Reporter reported sinking of 145-foot inter-islands freighter, PERSIA, 8 miles south of Grenada, on Mar 3. Vessel en route from Trinidad and Tobago to Grenada was caught in storm, developed a leak and sank after pumps failed. Nine crew were rescued. Most probably, the vessel in question is general cargo vessel PERSIA II, antique freighter built in 1939 in Germany. Vessel was trading in Europe and not later than in 1985 was relocated to Caribbean. Full-scale photo at http://www.shipsnostalgia.com/gallery/data/517/IMG_4026_copy_small.jpg
