Car carrier HONOR fire: Feb 25 UPDATE
Feb 25 UPDATE: Vessel was moved to Southampton in the evening Feb 24, after some hours sailing in legs off Isle of Wight, and berthed. According to BBC, vehicles on cargo deck caught fire. Vessel was sailing off Isle of Wight while emergency team, which boarded HONOR with monitoring equipment, assessed situation and risks. Most probably, it was decided to take vessel back to port after it was assured, that vessel poses no risk for port.
Feb 24 1600 UTC UPDATE: Vessel is sailing in legs southwest of Isle of Wight, situation unclear. Fire erupted on cargo deck, which was sealed. CO2 firefighting system was activated. Crew is monitoring situation in cargo area.
MRCC Jobourg France reported fire on upper deck of a car carrier HONOR at 0430 LT Feb 24, some 50 nm northwest of Cherbourg. According to report, crew managed to take fire under control using CO2 extinguishers or activating CO2 system, unclear. Nevertheless, it was decided to sail back to port of departure, Southampton. As of 1130 UTC Feb 24, vessel actually, passed by Southampton, slowly increasing speed and heading in western direction. Probably, it was decided to continue voyage.
