Feb 20 UPDATE from ReCAAP: ..an unidentified number of pirates boarded the ship and abducted six crew members(Master, Chief Officer, 3rd Officer, 2nd Engineer and one oiler); and shot one crew (sailor) to death..
Feb 20 UPDATE: confirmed it’s GIANG HAI, one crew said to be killed during attack, seven hijacked, seventeen remained on board.
First news:
Vessel was reported attacked and boarded at 1022 UTC Feb 19 in position 06 09N 11939E, Sulu Sea. No other details given. According to AIS tracks in the area, the vessel in question may be Vietnamese general cargo vessel GIANG HAI (IMO 9557329, dwt 4739, built 2008, flag Vietnam). Vessel is en route to Iloilo Philippines ETA Feb 19, she changed course roughly after attack time and early in the morning Feb 20 approached Sandakan, Malaysia, northeast Borneo.
