VIMARU PEARL interrupted voyage after gas leak, 1 crew dead, 3 in coma

General cargo vessel VIMARU PEARL had to interrupt voyage to Philippines and urgently call nearest port, Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia, northwest Borneo, on Feb 12. Gas leaked into engine control room, poisoning people inside. One crew died and three were hospitalized, being in coma, but later their condition was reported as stable.
Vessel was taken to berth, understood as of evening Feb 13 she’s still in port, decontamination under way. On a photo VIMARU PEARL docked at Kota Kinabalu.
