Container ship HONG YUAN 02 hit reef, flooded, salvage under way

Container ship HONG YUAN 02 ran aground on a reef west of Small Huanglong Island, north of Zhoushan, at around 0145 LT Dec 16, while en route from Jingtang to Humen, China, East China Sea. Vessel was holed in bow area with ensuing water ingress, developing head tilt and starboard list, risking containers on board. Vessel had on board 864 TEU and 68 FEU. Salvage under way, by morning Dec 18 part of containers were offloaded to barges. Understood as of Dec 19 salvage still under way, water ingress said to be under control, list decreased.
