Tanker collided with fishing vessel, 1 crew missing, Malacca Strait

Product tanker VICTORY PRIMA collided with 6-ton fishing vessel JAYA II in Belawan waters, North Sumatra, Malacca Strait, at around 1900 Nov 9, shortly after leaving Belawan. Fishing vessel sailed parallel to tanker, but suddenly changed course towards tanker. VICTORY PRIMA tried to avoid collision, but didn’t have enough time for maneuvering, tanker struck fishing vessel, which sank after collision. Tanker rescued 3 fishermen, 1 went missing. Tanker was brought to anchor for investigation. Tanker is ballasting from Belawan to Dumai.
