NAVI MOON on fire, probably sank, arson suspected, Red Sea

General cargo vessel NAVI MOON caught fire on Oct 20 in Red Sea some 13 nm south of Ghalib port, Egypt, near Marsa Alam beach. Vessel was en route to Suez, there was no distress signal issued, 13 crew went into life boat and were rescued by tourist boat Safaga Star, some suffered burns. Vessel’s superstructure burned out, judging from photo. According to latest available, but unconfirmed report, vessel sank. Egypt authorities suspect arson, to destroy vessel in order to get insurance. According to AIS track, vessel sailed from Port Sudan on Oct 7 and anchored near disaster site, south of Ghalib, on Oct 11, last AIS signal dated Oct 14, still at anchor.
