Container ship WINDHOEK attacked by armed pirates, crew robbed, Guinea

Container ship was boarded by pirates at Conakry anchorage, Guinea, at 0352 UTC Sep 21 in 09 18N 013 45W, according to IMB report. Six robbers armed with weapons fired upon the duty crew on board, and broke into superstructure through broken bridge wing windows. Master activated security system. Understood pirates took hostages and used them as shields, while ransacking crew and cabins. They stole cash and valuables, and escaped. Reportedly crew are safe, understood pirates didn’t take hostages with them, it was a robbery. Vessel’s name wasn’t revealed, but according to available information, the vessel in question should be container ship WINDHOEK.
