Cruise ship EMERALD PRINCESS fire

Cruiselawnews.com reported fire in engine room of a cruise ship EMERALD PRINCESS at night Sep 17, while en route from Southampton to Las Palmas. Passenger sent a message to cruiselawnews.com, describing incident in detail. According to a message, engine room fire fighting system was activated, smoke was spotted on some lower decks. Fire was quickly extinguished, according to Captain’s announcement made via emergency speaker system. It is not clear what happened exactly and what was on fire – either some leaked fuel, or “generator air supply fan belt on deck sixteen near the funnels which are not far from the Movies under the Stars (MUTS) outdoor theater”. Anyway, nothing more serious than the crew fuss and smoke on some decks happened, the ship continued sailing.
