Ill crew medevaced from Russian Spy Ship YANTAR, Canary Islands

MRCC Canary Islands coordinated medevac of an ill Russian from Russian Naval Research vessel YANTAR on Sep 8-9, vessel was some 1000 nm southwest of the Canary archipelago. He was taken to ESPERANZA DEL MAR hospital ship, later transferred from a hospital ship to Tenerife airport, and finally, to hospital. Research vessel YANTAR is a new oceanographic ship, listed with Northern Fleet, Russian Navy. Project 22010 vessel was built at Pribaltiyskiy Shipbuilding Yard in Kaliningrad, commissioned in 2014. Displacement 5730 tons, length 108 meters, speed up to 15 knots. The US considers YANTAR as a spy ship, designed for the purpose of spying on Pentagon’s information net DoDin. The ship has deepwater submersibles, capable of destroying underwater cables. Russia generally, agrees with such an understanding of YANTAR activities and capabilities.
