Aug. 19, 2016 at 01:55 by Mikhail Voytenko in Maritime Security

General cargo vessel VECTIS OSPREY was attacked by pirates at 1430 UTC Aug 17 in vicinity 03 55N 007 10E, 20 nm off Bonny, Nigeria, Gulf of Guinea. Crew hided in citadel. Luckily, Nigerian Navy ship happened to be nearby and interfered after receiving an alert message. After some gunfire, pirates fled. Crew reportedly is safe, no information on vessel’s possible damages. Vessel left Port Harcourt on Aug 17, bound for Douala Cameroon, but after attack she sailed to Onne terminal and later to Bonny, so probably vessel did suffer some damages, hopefully crew weren’t injured.
