One died and three poisoned on board of CAPTAIN TSAREV, Brest

One worker died and three were poisoned by CO2 fumes on board of container ship CAPTAIN TSAREV, which is being dismantled at Brest port, France, on Aug 12. Preliminary investigation found, that fire fighting system did somehow switch on, releasing CO2. CAPTAIN TSAREV was stranded at Brest port since November 2008, when she was towed to port after propulsion damage. Vessel and Russian/Ukrainian crew were abandoned by an owner, derelict vessel was rusting, in 2014 she was looted and set on fire. Finally, port authorities decided to dismantle vessel, contracting Recycleurs Bretons Company.
