Aug. 9, 2016 at 14:35 by Mikhail Voytenko in Maritime Security

Chemical tanker CHEM DAISY was detained in Horta, Azores, on May 23, after PSC inspection found a number of detainable deficiencies. Vessel is still in port, Turkish owner probably abandoned the vessel, or at least her crew, with 3-month wages debt as of end of May. On Aug 8 last seven crew which were on board, including Master, left the vessel to return home, so tanker is now unmanned. Port authorities already took some precautions, pumping out all fuel which was on board. Vessel’s agent ATRANS terminated its’ obligations on July 23. Tanker is understood to be guarded by port security, but what’s coming next, is yet unclear. According to Portuguese law, vessel is considered as abandoned only after 30 days period of absent Master and Agent. Vessel is docked.
