Vinalines freighter arrested in Chittagong, company protests arrest turned to Vietnam Government

Bulk carrier VINALINES STAR arrived on Chittagong anchorage on May 27 with 25400 tons of coal, loaded at Samarinda, Kalimantan, Indonesia. Consignee found cargo damaged during transportation, according to chemical analysis performed by port laboratory. Consignee sued Vinalines, asking for compensation, totaling some $2,2 million. Court of Bangladesh issued arrest warrant. Vinalines appealed, asking for independent experts analysis outside Bangladesh, and estimating its’ losses already amount to $313,252. Company contacted Vietnamese Ministry of Transport and Ministry of Foreign Affairs, asking for assistance.
