Kenyan police seized cocaine found in containers loaded with bags of brown sugar, worth some $3.5 million, in Mombasa port. Kenyan The Star obtained Bill of Lading on some 18 to 20 containers, loaded with brown sugar, which originated from Santos Brazil, and were transferred to Europe by container ship MSC LETIZIA (IMO 9702065) in June. According to The Star, containers were shipped to Oman, and from Oman to Mombasa Kenya, to be delivered to a company in Uganda. Containers, again according to The Star, were delivered to Mombasa by MSC POSITANO (IMO 9154191), and offloaded on July 27. According to information from drug enforcement agencies, drug traffickers are testing new routes and schemes, among them transshipment of the drugs via East Africa countries. Cocaine seized in Mombasa is believed to be destined for Europe.
